Calling All Seekers: Two Doors, One Joyful Journey
Oct 26, 2026
By Daphne, Founder, Expansive Healing
Fellow Seeker, a gentle note before you read on: this piece speaks about loss, trauma, and PTSD — and even more about joy, courage, and positive growth. Take it at whatever pace serves you today. And if it stirs more than this moment can hold, support is close by — text HOME to 741741, or call or text 988.
Two doors lead out of Comfort City.
Some Seekers are pushed through one of those doors — by loss, trauma, or a life-altering event that arrives without warning. A door closes behind them. The old life is gone. And the new one hasn't revealed itself yet.
Other Seekers stand quietly in front of the second door for a long time before they ever open it. Nothing catastrophic has happened. Life in Comfort City is safe, familiar, even comfortable. But something inside keeps whispering that there's more — a fuller, more authentic version of who they're meant to become — just on the other side of that second door. And still, they hesitate. The known, even when it isn't fully alive, can feel safer than the unknown.
Both doors lead to the same Quest.
This article is for you whether you're standing in the middle of a season that changed everything, or standing at the edge of a life that already works well enough — sensing that "well enough" isn't the same as "fully alive."
The journey ahead is not about denying your pain, if you have pain to carry. And it's not about manufacturing a crisis you don't have, if you are not there. It's about equipping yourself with tools to rise above rumination or hesitation, reconnect with your deepest self, and step into a brighter, more expansive life — one baby step at a time.
Welcome, fellow Seeker. Your journey begins here, whichever door you walk through.
If Loss Opened Your Door
If hardship pushed you through the door, I want you to hear this first: you're still here. Whatever happened did not defeat you. And that means you're ready — even if it doesn't feel that way yet — to grow into the highest version of yourself.
You may have once believed that resilience meant pushing through hardship — white-knuckling it, waiting for time to do its work. As a Seeker, you'll learn that resilience runs deeper than that: it's the healing of your mind, body, and spirit after hardship.
Sometimes something stands between us and that healing, and it helps to know its name: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD.
A quick note on my role here at Expansive Healing: I'm an instructor, educator, and certified neuroplasticity coach — not a licensed therapist or medical provider. If you're navigating PTSD or trauma, you may already have, or need, professional support alongside this work. Reaching for that support isn't a detour from your Healing Quest — it can be an essential part of it. Everything here at Expansive Healing is meant to walk beside the professional support you need, not replace it.
In many people, PTSD can keep the brain's threat-response systems more active than they need to be — generating painful "what if" scenarios that can feel real even when they're unlikely, and steering you away from joy and connection. Here's what I want you to know: that loop is not you. It's your brain doing what it was designed to do after a hard experience — and research on neuroplasticity suggests that with consistent practice and the right tools, those patterns can shift gently over time.
After a significant loss, you may have reached for old tools — the ones that acted as bandages, covering wounds rather than healing them. Those old tools and the passage of time don't finish the job of positive personal growth. The good news is that you don't have to do this work alone, and you don't have to do it all at once.
Or Maybe You're Being Pulled, Not Pushed
Not every Seeker arrives at this door through crisis. Some arrive through a quieter, more persistent kind of discomfort — the sense that you've outgrown a life that looks fine from the outside, but no longer fits who you're becoming on the inside.
If that's you, you may meet a character on your threshold who isn't part of the Cast of Antagonists, but is still worth knowing by name: Virgil. Virgil is the voice of fear of the future — the one who shows up right at the edge of Comfort City to remind you of everything that could go wrong if you walk through that doorway. Joseph Campbell called this moment the Refusal of the Call. It's not weakness. It's the very human instinct to protect what's known, even when what's known is no longer enough.
Virgil isn't your enemy. He's a mirror — showing you your own hesitation so you can look at it honestly instead of being run by it.
And here's the good news: Virgil isn't the only voice at the threshold. Sybil is there too — the voice of love and courage, quietly whispering keep going. The more you listen for her, the easier she becomes to hear.
You don't need a diagnosis, a tragedy, or a rock-bottom moment to qualify as a Seeker. You only need the willingness to notice that Comfort City has become a holding pattern rather than a home — and the courage to take one small step past Virgil, toward the life waiting on the other side of positive growth.
Your Joy Went Quiet — Not Away
Maybe you still experience moments of joy — a laugh with someone you love, a beautiful morning, a brief exhale of relief. But the ever-present joy that once grounded you — or the joy you sense is possible but haven't fully claimed yet — can feel just out of reach.
The Seeker in you is determined to find it.
Here is what I've learned after my own Healing Quest, and after walking alongside hundreds of students on theirs: your joy didn't leave you. It went quiet. Your Fierce Protector — the part of your brain wired for survival — turned down the volume on everything that felt too vulnerable, too hopeful, too exposed.
Your joy is still there, Seeker, waiting beneath the noise.
The work of this journey is learning to turn the volume back up — gently, gradually, with tools that work with your brain rather than against it.
Your Highest Self Is Waiting
Moving from where you are now to joy means reconnecting with what I call your Highest Self — the part of you connected to a flow of Universal Love and Light. This is your Wise Sage: the still, steady voice beneath all the noise. The part of you that knows — even on the hardest days, or the most hesitant ones — that healing and positive growth are possible, and that your life still has purpose and beauty.
Your authentic self is joyful and optimistic. Hardship may have obscured those elements. Fear of the unknown may have quieted them. But they have not been extinguished.
Here at Expansive Healing, I teach Seekers one of the most powerful tools I know for reconnecting with your Highest Self: what I call Prosperity Gratitude — a practice of thankfulness that comes from the heart, not obligation. Unlike other efforts at gratitude that sound like a lament wearing a gratitude costume ("I'm grateful it wasn't worse"), Prosperity Gratitude sincerely celebrates life for both its joys and its challenges, because these experiences deepen the richness of the tapestry we are weaving into what will become our legacy.
On your journey, you'll learn to use Prosperity Gratitude to honor what you've lost, what you've lived, and the person you are becoming — whether that becoming was thrust upon you or chosen by you. This isn't about pretending pain isn't real, but rather that your pain doesn't define you. It's about choosing, again and again, to let love be louder than fear.
You Don't Have to Walk This Alone
One of the most important things I can tell you as a fellow Seeker is this: seek your Positivity Partners.
These are the people — mentors, friends, community members, wise sages — who not only survived their own devastation or found the courage to leave their own Comfort City, but went on to serve others from that experience. Their visible demonstrations of healing and positive growth become your evidence that healing is real, that the High Road to positive growth exists, and that you can find your way there too.
As you begin this new life as a Seeker, you'll naturally gravitate toward people whose daily actions align with the deepest beliefs in their hearts, and in the hearts of all humanity. Trust that instinct. Your Wise Sage is leading you toward the support you need.
Some opinions others offer about your journey won't resonate with you — and that's okay. Protect your energy field. Focus on the opinions that genuinely help you break free from negative thinking loops or frozen hesitation. And when moving forward feels impossible, let your Positivity Partners hold the belief in your positive path forward for you until you can hold it for yourself.
The High Road Is Waiting for You
Accessing joy is a choice — but it requires practice, commitment, and the right tools.
Seek the High Road — the path paved with principles from your heart like love, patience, respect, empathy, and compassion. Those move you quickly to the place where your joy resides. When life's events, or your own fear, cause you to stray, return to the High Road as quickly as you can by choosing thoughts and actions aligned with your deepest principles, and know your joy is waiting for you there.
At Expansive Healing, every tool I teach — every course, every mini-class, every TEAM Meeting — is designed to help you find the High Road and stay on it, no matter which door you came through to get here. Seeker, be grateful for that door, because walking through it interrupts a rumination loop and invites you to move past Virgil, who is poised there at the threshold. The other side of that doorway is where you reconnect with the joy that is your birthright — freeing you to become the person you were always meant to be.
Your Next Step
If you're ready to begin — or even just curious about what beginning might look like — I have a free gift for you.
It's called "Meet Your TEAM" — a free, 30-minute class that introduces you to your four inner TEAM players, each with their own position on the TEAM, and what each one needs from you right now.
It's the first step I can offer you from Expansive Healing to support your journey, no matter which door brought you here.
